Meyer Sound CQ-1-600-HP Sound Package Used, Second hand

Ref. code: 1.01.357

CQ-1

Wide Coverage Main Loudspeaker

The CQ-1 wide coverage main is a selfpowered, phase-corrected reinforcement loudspeaker offering precise, low-Q coverage. The CQ-1 features a patented constant-Q horn design ? the result of extensive research using Meyer Sound?s calibrated anechoic chamber. The frequency response of 40 Hz to 16 kHz is uniform over the entire coverage area in both the horizontal and vertical axes, with no side lobes even when measured at a one-sixth octave frequency resolution.
The CQ-1 loudspeaker?s unique combination of precise pattern control, compact size, low distortion and high power make it suitable for a wide variety of installed and rental applications. The CQ-1 is perfect as the main PA in small- to mid-sized auditoriums, houses of worship, clubs and hotel ballroom settings, and is highly effective in delayed fill applications for arenas and outdoor concert systems.
The CQ-1 loudspeaker?s low-frequency section comprises a single 15-inch Meyer Sound cone driver, and the high-frequency section utilizes a 4-inch diaphragm compression driver coupled to an 80-degree by 40-degree constant-Q horn.
The sophisticated MP-2/CQ-1 power amplifier is integrated into an accessible, lightweight rear module. The amplification, processing and protection circuitry produces consistent and predictable results in any system design. The proprietary two-channel amplifier employs Meyer Sound?s proven class AB/H design with complementary MOSFET output stages, and delivers 1240 watts burst power (620 watts per channel). Audio is processed through an electronic crossover and correction filters for phase and frequency response, as well as driver protection circuitry.
Each amplifier channel has TruPower limiting technology which maximizes loudspeaker reliability, minimizing power compression and extending component life. TruPower also affords higher continuous SPL capability at all frequencies with maximum headroom and regulates voice coil temperature. Limiter activity is easy to monitor with the limit LEDs on the rear panel.
The MP-2/CQ-1 amplifier?s power supply incorporates Meyer Sound?s Intelligent AC system, which performs automatic voltage selection, EMI filtering, soft current turn-on and surge suppression. Intelligent AC allows fail-safe operation worldwide, with no need to manually select the AC mains voltage.
The compact CQ-1 system is housed in an all-birch multi-ply enclosure with a textured, hard shell black finish. It is flyable and arrayable using standard ring and stud pan fittings on top and bottom rated at 500 lbs (226.80 kg) with a 5:1 safety factor. An optional mounting yoke allows flexible, quick installation and easy aiming in theatrical and permanent applications.
Options for the CQ-1 cabinet include weather protection and finishes in custom colors for fixed installations and other situations requiring specific cosmetics.
The CQ-1 integrates with the optional RMS? remote monitoring system, which displays signal and power levels, driver status, limiter activity, and amplifier temperature on a remote Windows computer.

The 600-HP is a self-powered, high-output subwoofer that may be used in both flown and ground-stacked configurations. It is designed to rig directly with MICA compact, high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers when fitted with the optional QuickFly MRF-600 rigging frame. The versatility of the 600-HP also allows it to be used with a variety of other Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers ? such as CQ-1, CQ-2, UPA-1P, and UPJ-1P ? in fixed and touring applications.
The system features two specially designed high-power 15-inch cone drivers, engineered to provide optimal performance in subwoofer applications. The high-excursion, back-vented drivers have 4-inch voice coils, and each is rated to handle 1200 watts (AES).
The two cone drivers are housed in a rectangular, optimally tuned and vented enclosure that is the same width as MICA, and a few inches higher and deeper. The enclosure geometry makes vertical ground-stacking easy and convenient. Operating frequency range is from 36 Hz to 150 Hz, with a peak SPL at one meter of 138 dB.
Each cone driver is driven by a channel of the integral two-channel class AB/H amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages. Total output power is 2250 watts (4500 watts peak), providing the system with sufficient headroom to accommodate the most extreme sound reinforcement demands with ease. The circuitry includes TruPower limiting to extend the life of the drivers and hold long-term power compression to less than 1 dB. The amplifier, control electronics, and power supply are integrated into a single, field-replaceable module that is mounted the rear of the enclosure.
The optional MRF-600 rigging frame uses captive, rigid GuideALinks contained within recessed guides in the lower front and rear corners of the enclosure. A slot and convenient pinned handle allow the link to be moved and pinned for arraying or storage. The versatility of angles achieved by using combinations of front and back positions allows a MICA array suspended under 600-HP subwoofers to be uptilted for balcony coverage up to 15 degrees, or to 6 degrees with respect to the 600-HP. The 600-HP can make use of the optional MG-MICA rigging grid to accommodate a variety of flown and stacked configurations.
The durable enclosure is constructed of premium birch plywood coated with a black,hard-shell finish, with a powder-coated, hex-stamped steel grille lined with acoustical black mesh to protect the drivers. The exterior dimensions of the 600-HP are suitable for both European and U.S. trucks, and it can securely travel in stacks using the MCF-MICA caster frame, or MDB-600 dolly board when not fitted with rigging frames.
Options for the 600-HP include pro and custom color finishes for fixed installations and other applications requiring specific cosmetics. The RMS remote monitor- ing system ? standard with the rigging version and optional with other configurations ? allows comprehensive monitoring of system parameters on a Windows-based network.

Used Meyer Sound Laboratories

Meyer Sound Laboratories is an American company based in Berkeley, California that manufactures self-powered loudspeakers, multichannel audio show control systems, electroacoustic architecture, and audio analysis tools for the professional sound reinforcement, fixed installation, and sound recording industries.
The company’s emphasis on research and measurement has resulted in the issuance of dozens of patents, including for the now-standard trapezoidal loudspeaker cabinet shape. Meyer Sound has pioneered other technologies that have become standard in the audio industry, including: processor-controlled loudspeaker systems, self-powered loudspeakers, curvilinear arraying, cardioid subwoofers, and source independent measurement.
Meyer Sound has consistently involved itself with advanced research beyond that connected to immediate product development, sometimes in conjunction with arms of the University of California, Berkeley. Some of this research has resulted in unusual products such as their parabolic sound beam and sound field synthesis loudspeakers. Other projects, such as the spherical loudspeaker research underway by Meyer Sound and CNMAT (Center for New Music and Audio Technologies) at UC Berkeley are still in the stage of pure research.

Octave: The difference between two frequencies where one is twice the other. For example, 200 Hz is an octave higher than 100 Hz. 400 Hz is one octave higher than 200 Hz.

Optical Digital Cable: Fiber optic cable that transfers digital audio signals as light pulses.

Outcue/Outq/Out-Point: These words all refer to the final few seconds of audio signifying the conclusion of the production.

Package: A completed and fully edited audio piece.

Passive: Not active. A passive crossover uses no external power and results in insertion loss. A passive speaker is one without internal amplification.

Phase: Time relationship between signals it’s all relative.

Power Output: A measure, usually in watts, of how much energy is modulated by a component.

Preamplifier: A control and switching component that may include equalization functions. The preamp comes in the signal chain before the amplifiers.

Pre Outs: Connectors that provide a line-level output of the internal preamp or surround processor.

Pre Outs/Main Ins: Connectors on a receiver that provide an interruptible signal loop between the output of the internal preamp or surround processor portion of the receiver and the input of the amplifier portion of the receiver.

Pre/Pro: A combination preamp and surround processor.

Processors: Anything that processes an incoming signal in some way. Surround processors, for example, can decode a Dolby Digital signal to send to an amp so you can hear it.

Pulse Code Modulation: (PCM) a way to convert sound or analog information to binary information (0s and 1s) by taking samples of the sound and record the resulting number as binary information. Used on all CDs, DVD-Audio, and just about every other digital audio format. It can sometimes be found on DVD-Video.

Q-and-A: Question and answer session.

Receiver: Any component that receives, or tunes, broadcast signals, be it NTSC, HDTV, DBS, or AM/FM radio. Typically refers to the single component that includes a preamp, surround processor, multichannel amplifier, and AM/FM tuner.

Reverberation: The reflections of sound within a closed space.

RF: Radio Frequency. Television signals are modulated onto RF signals and are then demodulated by your television’s tuner. VCRs and DBS receivers often include channel 3 or 4 modulators, allowing the output signal to be tuned by the television on those channels. Also, laser discs used an RF signal for modulating Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks on some movies. This requires an RF demodulator (usually referred to as an AC3-RF demodulator) before or in the surround processor to decode the signal.

RMS: Root Mean Square or the square root of the arithmetic mean (average) of the square’s set of values. A reasonably accurate method of describing an amplifier`s power output.

SACD: Super Audio CD. Enhanced audio format with up to six channels of high-resolution audio encoded using DSD. Requires an SACD player. Multichannel also requires a controller with six-channel analog or proprietary digital inputs for full playback.

Sampling Frequency: How often a digital sample is taken of an analog wave. The more samples taken, the more accurate the recording will be. You need to sample at a minimum of twice the highest frequency you want to capture. For example, the 44.1-kilohertz sampling rate of a CD cannot record sounds higher than 22.05 kilohertz.

Scener: A radio report in which the announcer is recorded at the same time and place as the background sound of an event.

Sensitivity: A measurement (in dB) of the sound-pressure level over a specified frequency range created by a speaker driven by 1 watt (2.83V at 8 ohms) of power with a microphone placed 1 meter away.

Signal-to-Noise Ratio: A comparison of the signal level relative to the noise level. Larger numbers are better.

Simultaneous Interpretation: This system allows attendees to hear the meeting in their own language.

Sound Bite: A portion of audio of someone speaking.

Sound field: The total acoustical characteristics of a space, such as ambience number, timing, and relative level of reflections ratio of direct to reflected sound RT-60 time etc.

Soundstage: The area between two speakers that appears to the listener to be occupied by sonic images. Like a real stage, a soundstage should have width, depth, and height.

Speaker: A component that converts electrical energy into acoustical energy.

SPL: Sound-Pressure Level. Measured in dB.

Subwoofer: A speaker designed to reproduce very low bass frequencies, usually those below about 80 Hz.

THX: Certification program for home theater equipment. Uses some proprietary features, but mostly assures a base quality level for a given room size. (See THX select or Ultra.) Is compatible with any and all soundtrack formats. Stands for either Tom Holman’s eXperiment, after the engineer who drafted the original standard, or is named after the company’s founder George Lucas first movie, THX 1138. Nobody agrees on which.

THX select: Certification program for speakers and receivers that assures a base level of quality and performance when played in a room that’s between 2,000 and 3,000 cubic feet.

User-Generated Content (UGC): Text, photos, video or audio supplied by the customers of a company.

Voicer: A radio report without background audio taken from a scene or otherwise.

Wrap: A radio report containing both the reporter and an actuality.
